This unit will consist of a series of seminars which will study the role of John Henry Newman (1801-90) and his formative influence on the Church in the nineteenth century.

Prerequisites:
two levels of Church History
Requirements:
one 2 hour seminar per week
Assessment:
one 5,000 word essay
