History
Catholic Theological College was established in 1972 by a group of dioceses and religious orders which agreed to act together as a confederated body in academic matters.Location
Catholic Theological College has been located in various parts of Melbourne since its beginning in 1972 at Corpus Christi Seminary, Glen Waverley. In 1973-1988 it was located at Clayton and since 1999 has been located in East Melbourne, the site of Parade College 1871-1967 and Cathedral College 1968-1994.MCD University of Divinity
From its inception in 1972, Catholic Theological College has been one of the Recognised Teaching Institutions of the MCD University of Divinity.Mission Statement
Catholic Theological College exists for the academic formation of priestly candidates, religious and lay people, for the pastoral service of the Church, principally in Victoria and Tasmania.Governance
As a particular institution within the MCD University of Divinity, CTC draws its governance from the Catholic hierarchy of Victoria and Tasmania and three affiliated religious institutes in their desire to provide for the education of clergy and laity in the mission of the Church.Courses
The programs offered originally were geared to seminary formation. However, it was quickly recognised that they were of benefit to many others. A primary degree, Bachelor of Theology, is undertaken by the majority of students.Acknowledgement of Indigenous Australians
The MCD University of Divinity and its Recognised Teaching Institutions (RTIs) acknowledge with respect the traditional custodians of this land and, in particular, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
We encourage and support MCD University of Divinity staff and students to work creatively in implementing appropriate policies and practices in our various RTIs, in consultation with Indigenous leaders.
We recognise our responsibilities and opportunities as Christian educational institutions to respect and understand Australia's Indigenous peoples, to build a more just Australia and to commit ourselves to the work of reconciliation.
Outreach
The current outreach program is offered at Corpus Christi School in Werribee, where the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Religious Education provides an opportunity for students to develop and deepen their understanding of theology, sacred scripture, sacramental life, and religious education. The Certificate enables students to prepare, implement and evaluate programs of religious education.Affiliations
In 2001, CTC became an affiliated college of Australian Catholic University.
In 1993, CTC became an affiliated college of Monash University.
As a recognised teaching institution of the MCD University of Divinity, CTC shares in the affiliation of MCD University of Divinity with the University of Melbourne.

Senior Fellows
The position of Senior Fellow was instituted in 2004. Senior Fellows are members or former members of the academic staff of Catholic Theological College who have distinguished themselves by their contribution to theological education or who have rendered exceptional service to Catholic Theological College.Diverse Faculty Backgrounds
One of the features of CTC is the variety of qualifications of the lecturing staff: doctorates are from the Angelicum (Rome), the Gregorian (Rome), the Lateran (Rome), Leuven, Manchester, Melbourne, Monash, Oxford, Ottawa, the Salesianum (Rome), UCLA (Los Angeles), as well as the MCD University of Divinity.
