History
Catholic Theological College was established in 1972 by a group of dioceses and religious orders which agreed to act together as a confederated body in academic matters.Location
Catholic Theological College has been located in various parts of Melbourne since its beginning in 1972 at Corpus Christi Seminary, Glen Waverley. In 1973-1988 it was located at Clayton and since 1999 has been located in East Melbourne, the site of Parade College 1871-1967 and Cathedral College 1968-1994.Melbourne College of Divinity
From its inception in 1972, Catholic Theological College has been one of the Recognised Teaching Institutions of the Melbourne College of Divinity.
Governance
As a particular institution within the MCD, CTC draws its governance from the Catholic hierarchy of Victoria and Tasmania and three affiliated religious institutes in their desire to provide for the education of clergy and laity in the mission of the Church.Courses
The programs offered originally were geared to seminary formation. However, it was quickly recognised that they were of benefit to many others. A primary degree, Bachelor of Theology, is undertaken by the majority of students. Like most bachelor qualifications, the degree is studied for three years full time, but with the possibility of up to nine years part time. Some students have undertaken the double degree, Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Theology, in association with Monash University. Graduate Certificate in Liturgy and Graduate Certificate in Teaching Religious Education are also available. Postgraduate programs include: Graduate Diploma in Theology, Specialised Graduate Diplomas, Master of Theology, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Arts (Theology), Master of Arts, Specialised Masters of Arts, Master of Ministry, Doctor of Theology, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Ministry Studies.
Outreach
On the initiative of the Master, Dr Norman Ford, CTC in 1987 offered a Bachelor of Theology unit in each semester at St Paul’s College, Traralgon.Affiliations
In 1993, CTC became an affiliated college of Monash University.
In 2001, CTC became an affiliated college of Australian Catholic University.
As a recognised teaching institution of the Melbourne College of Divinity, CTC shares in the affiliation of MCD with the University of Melbourne.

Senior Fellows
The position of Senior Fellow was instituted in 2004. Senior Fellows are members or former members of the academic staff of Catholic Theological College who have distinguished themselves by their contribution to theological education or who have rendered exceptional service to Catholic Theological College.Diverse Faculty Backgrounds
One of the features of CTC is the variety of qualifications of the lecturing staff: doctorates are from the Angelicum (Rome), the Gregorian (Rome), the Lateran (Rome), Leuven, Manchester, Melbourne, Monash, Oxford, Ottawa, the Salesianum (Rome), UCLA (Los Angeles), as well as the Melbourne College of Divinity.
