Peter Varengo holds the degrees of Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Salesian University (Rome), Diploma of Religious Education from the Institute of Religious Education (Dundalk, Ireland), and Master of Education (Religious Education) from Boston College.

He has extensive experience in Catholic secondary education and has been a member of the Salesian Formation Team. He is also Provincial Secretary of the Salesians.
His main academic interests are adult faith education and spirituality, and the psychology of human development and spirituality (retreat work).
