Department of Systematic Theology

Most Rev. Dr Timothy (Tim) Costelloe is a member of the Department of Systematic Theology. As a priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco (sdb), he was Rector and Dean of Studies of Salesian Theological College, Clifton Hill, until his appointment as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.

He lectures in Mariology and supervises research students in Systematic Theology.

Tim Costelloe holds a Bachelor of Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity, a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Salesian University (Rome), and a Doctorate of Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity, examining the theology of ordained ministry of John Paul II.

He has also taught systematic theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia (Fremantle) and at Murdoch University, Western Australia. He has given inservice courses to teachers in the Diocese of Sandhurst and is a regular retreat giver.

His main academic interests are Mariology and the theology of the Ordained Ministry.

He published “Priesthood in the Theology of John Paul II” in Compass (2005).
