Master's Welcome

Terence-CurtinIt is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of Catholic Theological College. You will find a wealth of information here as you seek to determine the best path for your studies in theology and philosophy, and I encourage you to explore what CTC has to offer.

CTC is a Recognised Teaching Institution of the Melbourne College of Divinity, one of the oldest degree-granting institutions in the State of Victoria. Students at CTC come from all ages and walks of life, and are engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate studies in a variety of academic disciplines. Some are studying for ordination to the Catholic priesthood, some for pastoral ministry or teaching, and others for personal interest and enrichment. All are welcome.

Looking at the different fields of study you will see the engagement of heart, mind and soul that makes theology so interesting. In various ways, each field of study explores what Christians believe, and how this might be lived in the world today.

As a Catholic theological college, CTC draws on the Catholic tradition to respond to the difficult questions that the twenty-first century puts to religious faith. We at CTC are confident that answers can be found as reason and faith come together in a common desire for the truth. Inspiring this search and the desire to know is the regular celebration of the Eucharist in the college chapel.

Looking at the profiles of CTC’s academic staff you will see that as well as their professional expertise, they bring a whole range of pastoral experience and scholarly interests to their teaching and research. Parish ministry, biblical archaeology, seminary formation, liturgical renewal, counselling, bioethical research, philosophical enquiry … all these form part of the rich exchange between staff and students at CTC and illustrate its commitment to serve in the Church and the world.

CTC is well supported by the Daniel Mannix Library. Browsing through the catalogue reveals a substantial collection of journals and books awaiting your exploration.

To come and study at CTC is to join a vibrant learning community at the heart of the Church, one that is small enough to be friendly and personal, and yet large enough to offer variety and stimulation.

We hope that you will choose to join us.
