Denis Stanley

Department of Systematic Theology

Very Rev. Denis Stanley is a member of the Department of Systematic Theology.  He lectures on Ecumenism, and is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, and the parish priest of St Francis Xavier, Frankston. In February 2010 he was appointed the Episcopal Vicar for Ecumenism and Inter-faith Relations, and Chair of the Archdiocesan Ecumenical and Inter-faith Commission.

The undergraduate units he teaches include:

Denis Stanley holds the awards of Diploma of Librarianship from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Bachelor of Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity, and Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), Rome.    

His current research interests are Reformation History, Ecumenism, and Liturgy.

Steven Rigo

Department of Systematic Theology

Rev. Steven Rigo is a member of the Department of Systematic Theology.  He lectures in Ecclesiology. He is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, and the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s, Greensborough.

Steven Rigo holds a Bachelor of Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity, and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome). 

He was a member of the School of Theology (Victoria) at St Patrick’s Campus, Fitzroy, of Australian Catholic University, and Campus Chaplain at the same institution.  He has also been Tutor in Systematic Theology to seminarians at Corpus Christi College, the regional seminary for the dioceses of Victoria and Tasmania.  He also teaches systematic theology courses for the Archbishop's Office for Evangelisation of the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

His main academic interests are Ecclesiology, Sacraments, Christology, and Eschatology.

Peter Matheson

Rev. Dr Peter Matheson is a member of the Department of Systematic Theology. He lectures in anointing of the sick, and reconciliation. He is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, and the parish priest of Our Lady of the Assumption, Cheltenham.

Peter Elliott

Most Rev. Dr Peter Elliott is a member of the Department of Systematic Theology. He lectures in the theology of the Sacrament of Marriage. He is an Auxiliary Bishop for the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Peter Elliott holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Melbourne, a Masters of Arts in Theology from the University of Oxford, and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Lateran University (Rome), with a thesis on the Sacramentality of Christian Marriage.

He is the Episcopal Vicar for Religious Education in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, and the Director of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in East Melbourne, where he lectures on the Theology of Marriage and the Family. He has been an official of the Pontifical Council for the Family in Rome (1987-97), and is the General Editor of the Melbourne Archdiocese’s religious education texts, “To Know, Worship and Love.” In 2004 he was named a Prelate of Honour in recognition of his work in Religious Education.

His main academic interests are the theology of marriage and family, and liturgy. Among his publications are Ceremonies of the Modern Roman Rite (rev. ed. 2005), and What God has Joined: The Sacramentality of Marriage (1990).

Terence Curtin

Head, Department of Systematic Theology


Rev. Dr Terence (Terry) Curtin held the position of Master at Catholic Theological College from 2003-2010, and is the current President of the Melbourne College of Divinity. He is Head of the Department of Systematic Theology, and lectures in Sacramental Theology and Fundamental Theology. He is a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, and the parish priest of St Brigid's, Greythorn.

Terry Curtin has a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Urban University (Rome), a Bachelor of Education from the University of Melbourne and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome).

He is Secretary to the Forum of Australian Catholic Institutes of Theology (FACIT) and was President of FACIT (2003-05).  Before coming to CTC he was Head of the School of Theology (Victoria) within Australian Catholic University (1992-2002), where he taught units in fundamental theology, christology, ecclesiology and sacramental theology at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  He has also taught postgraduate units in sacramental theology and theological hermeneutics at Caritas Francis Hsu College, Hong Kong.  He was a Critical Colleague in the development of the core religious education documents for the dioceses of Ballarat, Sale, and Sandhurst, and the archdiocese of Hobart.  He is a magistral chaplain within the Order of Malta.

His main academic interests are Theological Hermeneutics and Sacramental Theology.
